Forest Youth Home Kolbenstein The Forest Youth Home Kolbenstein is a forest and nature educational and recreational facility. In 1989, the Protection Association of German Forests Rhineland-Palatinate opened the Forest Youth Home Kolbenstein. A former forestry service estate – located on a large forest clearing in the Rhine-Hunsrück between Emmelshausen and Boppard – was converted and furnished by the SDW into a Forest Youth Home. After 15 successful years of operation, the facility was expanded and modernized in 2005. 34 sleeping places in single to six-bed rooms are available. The building technology in Kolbenstein is environmentally friendly. The Forest Youth Home has its own plant-based sewage treatment system. A solar system and a wood pellet heating system are responsible for heating. The Protection Association of German Forests Rhineland-Palatinate and the State Forests Rhineland-Palatinate jointly manage the Forest Youth Home.
