Healthy meat from local forests –Wild Weeks Saar-Hunsrück
From November 7 to 22, the traditional Wild Weeks Saar-Hunsrück will take place in the Saar-Hunsrück region. All participating restaurateurs are member businesses of the regional initiatives "Ebbes von Hei", "SooNahe" or "Slow Food® Deutschland", thus standing for the use of regionally produced and seasonally available products. During the Wild Week Saar-Hunsrück, the participating restaurants will offer delicious dishes. The game comes exclusively from local forests.
The enjoyment of game specialties has a long tradition due to the large forest areas in Saarland and Hunsrück. Common in the Saar-Hunsrück region are especially roe deer, stag, and wild boar. Fresh game meat from local hunters is of the highest quality, as the game grows in the region's forests under natural conditions.
Game meat is very popular among gourmets due to its delicate and aromatic flavor. As a healthy alternative to meat from factory farming, it is also rich in vitamins and nutrients, cholesterol-free, low in fat, and high in important Omega 3 fatty acids.
The participating restaurants usually have long experience with game cuisine. It is part of the philosophy of the Wild Week not only to offer premium cuts like venison back. The whole animal is processed into high-quality dishes. Crispy roasted legs or hearty roasts find their fans just as much as tender ragout, liver, or kidney. Both hearty dishes according to traditional recipes and grilled and braised dishes in a modern style are served.
