The so-called "Devil's Rock" is an impressive geological natural monument, a quartzite rock more than 300 million years old. In the surrounding villages, there exists a wonderful legend about the "Foolish" Devil. From the platform of the observation tower "Langer Heinrich", magnificent panoramic views can be enjoyed on clear days.

Right next to it, hikers and visitors are invited to visit the newly built blockhouse with a panoramic terrace. It is lovingly furnished and offers space to sit, sleep, and enjoy the time. A small highlight are the USB charging ports in the sleeping area.

The Legend of the Devil's Rock

For a long time, people in Lützelsoon have been curious about how the great quartz rock came to be on the mountain ridge. It has been an important landmark and is visible from afar for centuries.

In the villages around the Devil's Rock, the following legend is told: Many years ago, the Devil noticed that hardly anyone from Bundenbach was coming to hell anymore. This made him very angry. The Devil's grandmother knew that churches had been built in many places, and that no one wanted to know anything about the Devil anymore. She therefore advised her grandson: "Go and take a big stone and throw it on the church of Bundenbach!" This was just to the Devil's liking. He immediately looked for a large stone and set off on the long journey to Bundenbach. In the heat of the day, he rested on the heights above Bruschied. Unexpectedly, an old woman came along the way with a large backpack on her back. Since the Devil did not know the way to Bundenbach very well, he spoke to the woman and wanted to know the best way to get there and how far it was. The woman immediately noticed that the rather strange-looking figure seemed to have bad intentions. Therefore, she kindly replied: "I just came from Bundenbach, look here, in my backpack I have all the shoes that I have already worn out." The Devil took a quick look inside, angrily threw the big stone away from him, and disappeared. The woman, however, was the wife of the cobbler from Bundenbach. She collected shoes from the surrounding villages to bring them to her husband for repair.
