The market, which has been held since 1410, traditionally takes place on the 2nd Friday in August. Since 1988, the market has been held in the marketplace, on the L 214 between the industrial area 'Layen' and the intersection Lingerhahn / Laudert. The community, along with the Pfalzfeld association and all market vendors, looks forward to numerous visitors, entertaining activities, and beautiful weather. Flying traders, charitable organizations, and hobby artists offer everyday goods as part of a manageable market event. Cool drinks, homemade bread, homemade sausage, and specialties from the grill ensure the physical well-being.
The Pfalzfeld market has a centuries-old tradition. From Walter Reimold, we know that market activities in Pfalzfeld have been documented since the 15th century through old customs accounts. The market is said to have originally been associated with the church consecration festival and was held on St. Maximins Day (May 29).
Later, the market took place on the day before the Feast of Corpus Christi.
In the school chronicles of Pfalzfeld and Norath, we find a description of the market activities from the years 1894/95. The Norath chronicler, teacher Georg Zell, writes:
"Year markets are not held in Norath, but there are two cattle markets in Pfalzfeld. At the same, one finds tents where drinks and food are served and sales booths. The largest cattle market is on the day before the Feast of Corpus Christi. On this day and the following holiday, there is also a fair in Pfalzfeld. In the marketplace, which is a small half-hour from the village, there is great joy and bustle on market day from noon when the cattle market ends. While the older people enjoy wine and beer in the tents, the young men and women have fun dancing. The sales booths cater to the children, and the game enthusiasts can enjoy the booths with the lucky wheels. Last year, even a riding school, as the locals say, brought a carousel; a novelty for the local people. Young and old from the surrounding area come together in the marketplace. In the evening, with music leading the way, they march into the village, where the dance continues in one of the two taverns. On the second day of the fair, there is again dance music, but this time in the other tavern."
Until the year 1908, the two markets took place annually on the usual days until the community found a new regulation for 1909 that provided for four markets. This rhythm continued until the 1920s.
Over the years, interest in the markets waned, so that in 1953 the last market took place.
In 1988, the community decided to revive the centuries-old market tradition after a 35-year break. It was established to hold a market in the old marketplace on the 2nd Friday in August.
