Simply right through nature...
What can become of a railway line when no train runs anymore is shown by the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path. Where trains rolled from Trier through the valley of the Ruwer to Hermeskeil for over 80 years starting in 1889, a recreational paradise for cyclists, skaters, and hikers has emerged with the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path.
The 48 km long tour from Trier-Ruwer through the Ruwertal, over Kell am See, to Hermeskeil follows the former railway line and showcases the beautiful landscape of the region from a perspective that could only be enjoyed from a train window in the past.
The great advantage: Where the tracks used to be, it is mostly flat, making it particularly family-friendly today with gentle inclines along the Ruwer through vineyards, meadows, and forests, as well as idyllic villages in the Ruwer and Hochwald - simply right through nature.
Those who want to avoid the gentle ascent from Trier to Hermeskeil have the option to use the cyclist bus for this stage during the main season.
Information about the cycle path and the schedule of the cyclist bus can be found at:
