Schwengel Fountain

The old Schwengelbuur was built in the 15th century. At that time, a Hungarian countess married at the Ehrenburg. She brought servants and maids from Hungary, who settled around the castle and in the Ehrenburg Valley. This countess donated the Schwengelbrunnen to the community of Morshausen, which was then obligated to perform labor services for the Ehrenburg. In memory of her homeland, it was built in the style of the Hungarian puszta wells. Since the countess was named Maria, the well is often referred to as "Maria Buar." The women of Morshausen held their laundry day at the well. The laundry was bleached and dried on the adjacent meadow. Even today, the Schwengelbrunnen stands as a reminder of the past in Brunnenstraße. The wooden structure has since been regularly renewed by the community.
