The Student Pebbles – Experience Space in the Heart of the City
Under the guiding theme "Living by the River," the city of Kirn is initiating new urban development projects. Rivers are points of attraction. People seek these experience spaces for leisure activities and local recreation. Many residents of Kirn enjoy the wonderful landscape, discovering flora and fauna. However, there are still potentials in the riverbanks of Nahe and Hahnenbach. They are expandable. Therefore, the vision was developed to make the river landscape of Nahe and Hahnenbach more attractive as experience spaces for children, teenagers, and older people in harmony with nature.

The focus is on the Student Pebbles, the pathway connection between Schillersteg and the residential area "Über Nahe," the river foreland at Meckenbacher Weg, and upstream in the district part of Kirn-Sulzbach. Last but not least, the river areas at Hahnenbach from Realschule Plus over Cramers Mühle to Kallenfels. Further projects in the inner-city area are to follow.

In 2009/2010, the project "Student Pebbles" was realized. Here, local recreation has tradition. It is close to the city and offers a fantastic potential of landscape. In the context of a demanding design, a multifunctional area has been created that offers great usage possibilities for all age groups.

The offerings for children are diverse: play tower, large slide, call columns, sound column made of natural stone, water playground. A toddler area rounds off the offerings. Adults can enjoy nature in several places, whether in the sun or shaded by a pergola or pavilion. The wooden deck conveys the feeling of "floating above the water," and not least, a small auditorium provides space for music and theater or for a school class. The existing sand and gravel bank at the mouth of Hahnenbach has been preserved. It, together with another newly created staircase, provides direct access to the water - free according to the motto: Living by the River!
